This is also the thread where we welcome your suggestions about features you miss from vBulletin and/or features you would like to see added to the forums in general.

I am a Mac user. I use both Firefox and Safari.

Whenever I click on the link to download a user's submission it kicks me to another page

So if I am on this page:

http://chuckpalahniuk.net/workshop/read?type=o&id=1960

and I click on the link to download the submission, I get kicked to this page:

http://chuckpalahniuk.net/files/workshop/

AND the file does NOT download.

What was included in the Aug. 17 site updates?

As you may or may not have noticed, We were down for a little bit today. Here is what is new...

First, we have a new text-editor.
The old one is gone as it proved too difficult for many people, plus as many of you noted it didn't work with your inline spell check. As such, from this point forward all spelling errors will result in an immediate ban. So what's different?

Functionality more-or-less remains the same.
The ability to embed videos has been greatly improved, which should no longer result in broken threads. Additionally, you may embed videos from any of the following sites: YouTube, Google, GameVideos, DailyMotion, MetaCafe, GameTrailers, CollegeHumor, MySpace, 5min, Howcast . If there are any other sites you would like to see added let me know and I'll see if I can make it happen. To insert a video simply paste the URL of the video into the box that pops up when you click the video button.

Can we not have mods needlessly edit people's threads?

That was the title of another thread of mine that I was trying to bump. But for some reason or another whenever it's posted in, it won't bump to the top of the page. Any one have an idea as to why this would happen?

Chat Mods Announcement

Hey, so the chatroom has not been modded in a while because I overlooked it when we moved to Drupal. Kirk reinstated our previous mods and we have added a few new ones.

Apparently there has been a lot of spamming and hostility in there. Franc called it a combat zone, but bravely accepted his assignment as a new chat mod! Also accepting modship of the chat are:

jane s. Spike Symnove, Thaq, ScribblingDes, and of course, franc tireur

The rules in chat are simple. It's much looser than the forums. No spamming, no overtly hostile or predatory type behavior. That's it. Simple. So have fun and be nice!

Questions for you guys

I'm putting in some stuff to keep out spammers and possible password hackers. The spam stuff is something you can never get rid of and can be dealt with on a case-by-case basis, but password hackers are another story. So, in an attempt to protect everyone's accounts, which of the following would you prefer?

a CAPTCHA form when you log in, to verify you're a person (the thing with the goofy letter you have to type in)
a password policy that requires a new password every X days
a password policy that requires a few special things for instance: one capital letter, one number and one non-standard character

Next up is the text editor. I'm intending to switch over to a more "typical" text-editor for you all to use. Meaning it will essentially be a text-box with a handful of buttons that insert markup tags for you. Bold and Italics, for example.

THIS IS THE DAY the workshops have been scheduled to be workable again, a day i've been waiting long and hard for. i dont remember if it was clayt or kirk or kar who was heading the workload on that part of the site, but i'm curious what all is going on. excited to get back to work in there.
