Proper diet when reading Haunted

I recieved Haunted as a Christmas present, and my brother, a big Chuck fan, warned me not to read the first chapter on a full stomach. I read a few pages the day I got it, and I haven't picked it up since, not out of a lack of interest but because of my brother's warning. I mean, what with all these people fainting at it, who knows if he might be right? I can't help but think I might feel some kind of connection to a book if my first memory of it is profuse vomiting. Any advice?

Being gut free (spoilerish?)

Having become acquainted with some people who are gut free, I now know that if you lose your rectum and asshole, you will end up with a stoma and a colostomy bag. A stoma is a small opening on your abdomen where they terminate the end of the gut at a small opening in the skin. A plastic bag plugs in there, and liquid form poo just goes directly in there every time you eat. If they just hooked up your guts where your asshole used to be, you would be completely incontinent and just have diarrhea constantly, because there would be no muscle there to act like a valve to stop the poop from coming out. Then you can also suffer from "short gut syndrome" where you do not absorb enough nutrients, and possibly do not re-absorb enough bile either. In that case, you may need supplementary Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) which is a nutrient-rich liquid typically injected through a PICC line around the collarbone area, as they sometimes do with people who have eating disorders.

What about the baby? (spoilers)

I was really confused by Miss America.
She found out she was pregnant in the house, but she has the baby before the 3 months are over?
Did she have a miscarriage? Because i don't think they would've eaten a living baby.

Money from movies

As long as Palahniuk is selling his stories to Hollywood, might I offer a bit of casting advice? If "Haunted" is ever "pitched" to the Big-Wigs, please hire Iggy Pop to portray Saint Gut-Free. I can imagine no one else.
Good call on Mr. Rockwell in "Choke" the movie.

Who is the narrator?

I read the book awhile ago and always wondered who the narrator was. ANy ideas? My guess would be the character with the notepad or the voice recorder. Although i doubt it because he refers to himself in the 3rd person which doesnt fit. Plus he got the least amount of discussion and reference to. I was just wondering...thanks

Miss Sneezy?

In her story, she had the "Keegan virus", which was contagious, which was the reason she was put into the hospital on the island..

So after she escaped....how did she not continue to infect people with it, like everyone she came across, including everyone in the theater?

Or am I just missing something..?

Thaaanks.:]

Dissertion

Great story, but the ending was kinda wierd. Did he kill that girl to keep her from going to the FBI? That last line - "But I really need to make a phone call first." Was he setting up a hit or something? That's what it seemed like to me.

The box

 The box:

you know how the box makes you look in at an angle?

and how the left eye goes to the right side of the brain?

and the right side is the creative/more susceptible to abstract ideas?

What if the box shows a quick film that rapidly changes your view on life?

It would be more effective since you would know the Box superstition and the Right brain would receive it.

Remember the "false" story the old guy wrote (forgot the name)?

something about how we all live on Venus if we have suffered enough?

suppose that is what was shown in the box.

people who think they suffered enough would just go and kill themselves

and if the don't think they suffered enough, they would suffer until they die to get to "heaven".

Pretty sure that is what happens (the suffer and the suicide) in the book, but if you can show an example i would enjoy it very much.

Favorite Short Stories

What would you say your favorites are?

I'd say ("Guts" aside)  that I really enjoyed the Exodus story by Director Denial, and I also got really interested in the Mrs. Clark stories about Cassandra.
