Just finished House of Leaves..

I'm aware there have been past threads on this, but I only found one thread discussing the book, and it was more asking if a lot of people have read it, rather than the plot itself and what everyone thought of it.. With in the thread I found a lot of people bitching telling the topic starter to research more before posting a topic on the book.. but, as I said before, didn't find it..so don't slay me for not searching.

Anyhow,

First off, the ending.. WTF?! Did it just not have an end? I mean I'm fine with unclear endings..but it was kind of ridiculous.. I think the Navidson record part ended fine.. with the explorations and then the Karen interview.. but the Johnny part..it was just so vague..And how was Navidson reading the house of leaves? Trippy and deep or..just plain weird?

The curious incident of the dog in the night-time. By Mark Haddon

Has anyone read this book?
I had to read it for a class and it was really good, I thought.
It is kind of a Catcher in the rye style book, with the main charecter being a boy with Autism.
I realy liked it and was wondering what others thaught.

Greetings from London!

Hi guys

I've been a huge fan of Chuck's since I saw the Fight Club movie and thought it was the first time I'd ever seen a film which actually felt like the experience of reading a novel. So obviously the logical thing to do was go and hunt down the book. After that I was hooked. I laughed out loud when I read the opening paragraph of Survivor - has there ever been a more gripping opening paragragh?
Anyway, I'm a UK, London-based music critic and first-time novelist. In fact one of the characters in my novel 'Etc Etc Amen' mentions Chuck's 'Choke' in the context of an unlikely coincidence involving Jesus's foreskin - but that's another story! For now I'm just saying hi and congratulating you on what a great vibe you've got going here.

Cheers

Howard

The Official Cult Book Club (thread)

Hey all.

I'm posting here to let you guys know that I have a poll open for the next book we discussed.

I'm not going to lie - the last discussion was a HUGE disappointment. I'm not sure that many people read/finished the book. I really really really want this one to be better.

We now have 73 (last time I checked) members. And it would be sweet if we could at least get half of them to vote. The poll only has 8 votes and it's been open for almost a week. I think it only has a day or two left.

Really - I want to see this book club be successful. So if you're a member - go vote. If you're not a member - feel free to join.

Gustav Hasford, another great writer you've probrably never heard of

or maybe you have. he wrote The Short-Timers, the novel Full Metal Jacket was adapted from. he wrote a sequal to the book and a detective novel and ammassed a fortune in late fees fromt he estimated 10,000 books he stole from libraries around the world before he died in 1993. he was working on multiple projects at the time of his death.

here's a sample of his work, an unpublished short-short story called A Periodic Table of the Elements

--Longview, Wash., October 31, 1971--At precisely 3:31 a.m. on the 3rd of August, 1975, a man eats his wristwatch.
"I'm handcuffed to time," he says.
It is simple. Remove the leather band and swallow the fat metal tablet, careful not to gag. Swallow it with the crystal down so that metal will not be cold on your tongue.
While making love to a woman, he asks: "What time is it?"
