I will go for Miranda July once more.
FYI - The Miranda stuff is a short story collection. Somehow I missed that the first time. It looks really good. I think I'll switch from NCFOM to NOBHMTY.
Those are some confusing looking acronyms.
Sorry, just cannot bear to write out No Country For Old Men or No One Belongs Here More Than You any more, especially with initial caps
I voted for Miranda July again, and i vote for McCarthy for February.
Oh, it's ok, I didn't mean you should stop, I just find the acronyms are amusing.
If NCFOM wins, could everyone keep an eye out for the questions I posed in this thread? Particularly the backgrond of Sheriff Bell. Or if it doesn't win and anyone that's already read it could help, that would be great too.
pssssst...pete! it's january 08 :)
I voted for the July book again.
And I giggled at the 07 thing. :D
I know! I just realized and fixed it.
Short stories? Really? :( Lame.
Eh, I got impatient, so I started No Country for Old Men today.
!
I think the July book won Tom. But I know why you want to read No Country. Duh.
I thought No One.... sounded more interesting, but I wanted to read No Country since the movie's coming out and stuff.....
Well, I wanted to read it because of the movie...but now it's also because I specifically want not to read Mirand July as I have no interest in reading short stories right now. I'm sure I would enjoy it and all, but I want to read novels. I recently read most of Irvine Welsh's latest collection of stories, If You Liked School, You'll Love Work and I read a few of the short stories that accompanied I am Legend - and I enjoyed all the stories in both - but I didn't finish either, because I just am not interested in reading that right now. But it's ok, you guys enjoy :D I'll rejoin the discussions in February and get some other reading done until then.
Vote No Country!
So the winner is No One Belongs Here More Than You by Miranda July.
Does anybody want to step up and be the discussion leader for January?
Also do you guys think that we should use No Country for February?
I don't know PGoutis01.... I think a lot of the people who voted No Country wanted to read it before the movie came out, and will probably read it on their own anyway.
But they can still talk about if we do make it the Febuary pick, they'd just have to wait a month. I don't know, I'm going to buy the July book right after Christmas, but I wouldn't mind picking up No Country as well....
For me - I'm fine with it being the pick for next month, even though I had a suggestion.... but it's cool, if this many people want to read No Country, I'd be fine with waiting a month for my book to be in the running. :)
I'm not a sore loser. It won fair and square. But thank you - I do appreciate that you made the offer :)
Y'all who voted for No One Belongs... just better make sure yo asses actually read it and discuss it! OR I WILL KEEL YOU!
<------- This ass will for sures Tom!
I'd definitely be down for No Country in Feb, but knowing these fickle lot, it'd probably be best to do a new poll for it.
When should I start reading the Miranda July book? I dont want to read it early in the month and then have forgotten it when the discussion starts.
I don't know. I need somebody to volunteer to lead a discussion on it.
Damn. This thing aint even out in paperback yet? I aint made of money!!!
When you need a thread started?
You want to be our discussion leader?
I am definitly up for No Country being the selection for February. Its going to take some willpower to hold off until then.
I'm trying to talk myself into picking up the Miranda July book, it didn't really pique my interest at first. Although, I guess one of my motives for participating in a book club is to be exposed to books I wouldn't normally read on my own. I guess I'll give it a go.
Sure, I guess so. This'll be my second time reading through the book anyway.
Ok guys... Do we want to do this book or what?
We can skip January and just get ready to kick off the Book Club next month. Or we can have a discussion for the Miranda July book.
Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!
Fuck, I ordered it and they were set to call me last week when it got in...... I never got called.
As of right now, I don't even have the book. I'm going back on Tuesday to see what's up. I could probably finish it in 3 days-ish, but with all this new site-ness I don't know how many people are gonna join in..... I dunno what to tell you.
Yeah I know...
I think that we can get things up and running like they were - but it'll take a while.
