Advance Reading Copies for your reading pleasure
Hey Culties,
I've got 10 ARCs (Advance Reading Copies) of my forthcoming novel, 6Sick Hipsters (http://www.6sickhipsters.com), for your reading pleasure. If you'd like to check out a copy, please send me your name and address. You can private message me here or email me via my website.
Two catches: 1. First come, first served. 2. You need to tell me what you think of the book. And I don't mean "It sucked" or "It ruled." I want some detailed feedback. Did it change your life? Did you use it as kindling? Would you recommend it? If you love it, will you be my humble and obedient book promoting servant?
For those who'd like to read it but don't get an ARC, no worries. The book will be on shelves at a store near you in April.

First of all, congratulations. This looks really good. I will PM you. I really hope this does well for you.
Are you friends with all of those writers that gave you blurbs? I worked with Spitznagel a LONG time ago here in Chicago at some now defunct magazines, and Owen of course, as a big fan of his father, I've gotten into his work.
Best of luck with this.
Peace,
Richard
Thanks, Richard -
I've emailed with Spitznagel, really good guy. I went to college with Owen but we never really hung out. Both of them are fantastic writers. Spitznagel had a great piece in the last Believer on Del Close and I believe Owen has something new up his sleeve that will be pretty freakin' cool.

I want, I want I want. Honestly I would love a copy.
Dark past, bright future, living abroad, well read. You're like the reincarnation of James Dean, hopefully with better driving skills ( Tomstrong on me, best compliment I ever got! )

He's everywhere that guy Spitz. I see his stuff pop up ALL the time. I don't know what he did, but I think he headed east and then just blew up. Good guy.
My Stephen King collection is worth about $10,000 so of course I had to read Owen's work. Good stuff so far.
Dude, I'm surrounded by hipsters everday. Leeds = hipster city UK, so my feedback would be amazing. Also, I'd totally love to read the book, it looks sick, if you excuse the pun. Also, if you want, I could get a couple of people to stick in an order for it in my local shop. When I did that with Clevenger's stuff in the most illiterate city in Yorkshire, Wakefield, they got in a whole heap of them. They still stock them now - though it might be the same bunch. A different chain takes over the shop every couple of months. It's been a Waterstones for the last while. Though everywhere stocks him now, which is great. I keep forgetting to do the same with the other Velvet authors.
But yeah, my point is I'd love to read your book and offer great feedback and pimp it overhere until some publisher decides there's money to be made and buys the UK distribution rights. But if you don't want a seventeen year old to read it, or someone in the UK, then I can accept that.
Good luck with it anyway, and congratulations.
Wickercat - Spitz is currently plying his trade in LA. Had a funky little book about his travails as a porn writer a few years back. Nice King collection. Very impressive!
Synnove - Thanks. I'm happy we've got such a unique and vibrant community here.
Corellion - Cheers! I'll send it to you this week. Any help in the U.K. is greatly appreciated. I know the rights are on the table. We'll see.
Mr. Brown - Great, thanks. I just want to get the book out into the world and hear what people say. People outside my circle of readers. Selfishly, I'm hoping that if people like the book they'll talk about it. Spread the word. Generate buzz.

How are you with international sales, I could check and drop a few copies off at certain Dutch retailers or publishers and see if they'd be interested. Although I am not guaranteeing anything of course. That is, if I like the book of course. Heh.

Ha, I'll have to pick that up. He's a very funny guy. Does great interviews and articles. Can't remember if he writes fiction or not. His stuff is so wild it could BE fiction.
Ah, the King. Been reading him forever. Have yet to meet him, but he's one of my heroes. Books like The Stand, IT, the whole Gunslinger series.
Where are you based, west coast? Are you coming to the midwest on a book tour or anything? There is a fantastic bookstore called Quimby's that'd be perfect for your book.
I'm in Chicago by the way, think I said that.
I saw ye ol' King when he visited his kids in college. Very mellow. Very nice. I'm based in Denver and will plan to do a book tour - dates and where totally uncertain - this summer. Most likely NYC, DC, maybe Chicago, Denver and Seattle, Portland.

If you make it down to Houston, I'll be sure to stop by your reading and meet you.
I know that is unlikely though because Houston is typically never on any book tours. People usually hit Austin or Dallas - they're considered more progressive.
I wouldn't rule it out. I have family in Houston but have never been there. If the book does well enough it's more than a perfect excuse to visit...

Rayo, thanks for agreeing to send me a copy. Best of Luck with your writing career, it beats serving cheeky kids in a candystore.
Dark past, bright future, living abroad, well read. You're like the reincarnation of James Dean, hopefully with better driving skills ( Tomstrong on me, best compliment I ever got! )
Wickercat - Yeah, debut novel. Next one will be out April, 2009. Neck deep in that one right now.
Jill's Tit - No worries. One will come to your doorstep.
Barca Boy - Nothing wrong with cheeky kids in Irish candy stores. That actually sounds much more intriguing than pounding away at a keyboard all night.

Im all excited about getting a copy. Its the type of book I would pay good money for.

I'm thrilled as well. I hope we can have a little discussion about it that we can share with Rayo.
Perhaps we can start a book discussion thread about it after we read it. What do you think? It would likely give him some useful feedback and generate some interest in the book since many Culties will be eager to buy it.

Great Idea. I would definitely on for that. I think its really good of him to send us out some copies eventhough the book is already complete.
I just thought of sending my copy on to John Connolly after Im finished with it.

sounds like a plan.
I don't like your face.
I'm definitely interested, if you still have any more that is?
Sounds like an interesting book and I'd love to help if you need it.
I don't want to be the one she tells her deep dark secrets to.
I want to be her deep dark secret
Yes. Yes. And yes. Thanks everyone. Hope you all dig the book. Feel free to send it around and to discuss it at large. I'm normally a pretty humble cat but I really do think Culties will get into this. Seriously, what's not to love about erotic paleontology and bloodthirsty baboons with really un-PC names?
By the by, I'm putting the finishing touches on a book trailer (ever seen those?) and I'll be sure to post a link to it here as soon as it goes up on the 'Tube.

If my copy arrives tomorrow before I go on Holiday I will be chuffed. If not I have all next week to read it.
Dark past, bright future, living abroad, well read. You're like the reincarnation of James Dean, hopefully with better driving skills ( Tomstrong on me, best compliment I ever got! )
Hope you enjoy it, Synnove. Let me know...
By the way, Corellion (et al), I have decided I'm a total flunky with Adobe - I'm decent with InDesign and Illustrator but a tool at ImageReady and PhotoShop - I just can't make a good banner ad. Anyone willing to help me? I'll give you massive props everywhere I go. And I do travel quite a bit. Maybe even give you a first glimpse at my ultra-secret special promotional UNCUT copy of 6Sick.

Rayo Thank You. My copy was waiting for me when I got home today. I should be finished it in a few days. First impressions it looks great. Thanks once again.

I'm getting to grips with Photoshop myself and I'm sure I could get together something decent for advertising purposes. Send a PM my way - I'd be glad to work on something pretty looking. Makes a difference from writing essays about Edward Gordon Craig and his bloody theatre productions.

Corellion - Thanks!
Barca - Looking forward to your thoughts

I don't have time to write much now, but I just read a bit during a smoke break and wanted to say: I hate solid white sneakers too!!
Also, is it too late for typos and other errors to be corrected? I have been marking them as I see them, but I don't know whether or not posting them will be helpful.

An ARC is the copy of the book that still has those, they'll be worked out before a public release usually. My copy of Rant had a couple of them.
Hey Scribbling - Yeah, the typos. The ARC is an uncorrected proof, it's basically the copy of the book prior to the final round of copy edits. So, you're going to see some typos and such. Pretty standard fare and they've been corrected for the final printing.
Glad to hear you're on the white sneaker boat with me!

The only ARCs I've read had only a few, so I wasn't sure. I'll keep that in mind.
