Stephen Colbert for President?

A small number, but still.
It's weird how many students around here are supporting Paul. It's not a majority, but there's a definite presence.

It's not weird, its glorious.
He spoke about that yesterday the opening of his capaign office in Concord, how the youth are the undirtied generation in that they don't have to inherit the failed policies of now and if united, could reinstate the Constitution.
If it's not consensual, it's not moral. Ever.

Homeboy wants us back on the gold standard. This is not a good idea. At all.
Ron Paul, on the surface, seems like a great candidate. But once you get past the couple big ticket items, he's really extreme and scary.
In what sense is he scary, and why, might I ask, should we have no backing to the dollar?

We have backing to the dollar; the dollar is backed by a portion of the GDP of America. The gold standard was responsible for an almost uninterrupted cycle of peaks and crashes of the value of the dollar, dependant on the market price of gold. As mining output fluctuated, so did the value of the currency. That's no way to run a modern economy, especially one as heavily involved in foreign markets as ours. Putting us back on the gold standard would endanger the economic security of the county, which is already questionable, and make exchange rates almost impossible to consistantly figure.

That particular issue I'm new to, as far as what backing is best, however, we definitely need some concrete backing. Currently, we have nothing, as the federal reserve sets the value and has not accounted for this nation's gold since 1913. I'm no expert on pre-1913 economics, but since the federal reserve was unconstitutionally handed the power to mint money, they have done nothing but consistantly inflate money to the benefit of Wall Street. Inflation eventually catches up with itself, but not when it never stops, which is the primary aid to maintain the status quo, ie, rich get richer. Our major economic crises have come since them. Also now, individuals own nothing. Everything we own is actually a debt that we can almost never pay off. Since saving money during inflation is impossible, we are forced to sign our lives over to bankers.
While exported products would be a good source of backing for the dollar, with almost everythng we consume coming from asia, is our GDP really worth anything?
Had we never abandoned precious medals, we would never have had a problem, however since we have left them, you're right, there would be an inconsistancy in returning to it, though I see the longrun payoff as worth it.
But again, I'm no expert on the issue, I'm just going off the conflicting stories I've heard from everything from mainstream media to Michael Savage to Conspiracy Theorist.

Only if he had Putin is his running mate. This country needs a bad-ass corporate destorying Russian man.
Because I love. I, who am not loved in return. I have a love that is far deeper than the empty gasps and convulsions of brutish coupling. Shall I speak of her? Shall I speak of my bride? She has no eyes to flirt or promise. But she still sees all. Sees and understands with a wisdom that is god-like in its scale. I stand at the gates of her intellect and I am blinded by the light within. How stupid I must seem to her. How child-like and uncomprehending. Her soul is clean, untainted by the snares and ambiguities of emotion. She is untouched by joy or sorrow. I worship her though I am not worthy. I cherish the purity of her disdain. She does not respect me. She does not fear me. She does not love me. They think she is hard, and cold, those who do not her. They think she is lifeless and without passion. They do not know her. She has not touched them. She touches me, and I am touched by God, by destiny. The whole of existence courses through her. I worship her. I am her slave. No freedom ever was so sweet.

Still though, I hope he wins
remember when michael moore helped a plant beat out a long sitting mayor in nj? that was awesome.
If Huckabee wins, he'll be vice president.
