Real News Barca Boy to visit New York
I decided this afternoon that I am finally going to visit America. I consulted google about an advisor for my trip and JTs name came up. My flight is booked and Im leaving Europe for the first time on Thursday January 31st and staying for 4 nights.
To put things into perspective the farthest West Ive ever been is these 3 tiny little islands 5miles off the coast of Galway. There are more people living in New York than all of Ireland put together. Im thrilled but also anxious and a little nervous.
A few months ago I realised that The Cult is playing a big part of my life so if any of you guys want to come and say hello to me then come along. Im going to meet JT for sure and Tom9d is interested aswell.
Im making a list of all the things I want to see and do!
I cant wait!!!!!
Dark past, bright future, living abroad, well read. You're like the reincarnation of James Dean, hopefully with better driving skills ( Tomstrong on me, best compliment I ever got! )
I'm assuming you have accommodations, but if you are still in need of a couch, we have one available here in Brooklyn.
Thanks Glamhoth. My brother is off to New York next week and hes going to suss a hotel for me. I wouldnt like to impose on anyone. If you want to meet up with a few of us, the more the merrier. I think for at least the first 2 days I will be wandering around in a haze staring at all the tall buildings.

This will be great!
Im even more excited now.
East Village- Definitely, I read a lot about it form Arthur Nersesians books.
If any wants makes the effort to meet up then I will certainly make time. Im more a people person than a sightseer.

Im less then 2 hours south of NY so if theres gonna be a bunch of people I could see about going and metting you. On your flight over though, try not to fly over North Jersey, you might get a tumor.

I'll do tourist stuff with you like the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. I've never done that kind of stuff in NY, AND this way you will have someone along to take photographs of you at these landmarks. :)

I know, I was kidding...I live in NY. I'm not that bad on my own state's geography.

But let me guess, you got upper-decked?

Im already thinking of what treats to bring.
I think for the journey over Im going to read Godspeed by WCB
I actually thought when I opened this thread I would be seeing about 3 Culties at most but now Im even more excited. I hope ye are not expecting anything special by me, Im just a small town boy from Ireland.
Oh yes, you guys are free to take as many photos as you like.

If you live around here, it's really good to do all the touristy stuff at least once. I've lived in NYC my whole life, and didn't do any of that stuff growing up, except the Statue of Liberty...finally, in 2000, I had an exchange student from Germany...so my classmates and I took our students to all the touristy spots. It was my first time going to the Empire State Building, but more importantly, it was my first time going to the World Trade Center...went to the top of one of the towers and got some amazing photos...a year later, the towers were gone.
It's easy to take things for granted when you grow up with them there.

Well, I've WORKED in Times Square before, but fuck... I've never been to the Statue of Liberty, never been IN the Empire State Building, never hung out on Wall Street (what the fuck would I be doing there?), never been to a brothel for "business"
But I've eaten plenty of hot dogs that I've regretted, ate breakfast in a diner... at like six in the morning after getting drunk and walking it off for two hours, dated a cheerleader, fought a cabbie, ACTUALLY sued someone (well, counter sued)... and, well, I'm not sure how welcome I am at the 34th street Macy's. BUT WE'LL SEE.
I know so much random shit about NYC (because of that job in Times Square), I'll be an awesome tour guide. I can't wait, Derek!

I work a couple of blocks from there.

Ive already got two tourguides so instead of reading travel books Im going to read lots of New York fiction in the meantime.

...like the 9/11 Commission Report? BAM!
As God as my witness...I thought turkeys could fly...

So when is your flight supposed to arrive, on Thursday or Friday? Either way I can probably arrange to pick you up at the airport. I'd hate for your first experience in America to be a NYC cab ride, although if you're looking forward to that sort of adventure I can understand that.
Of course, I'd pick up a few culties on the way so that you can have a big greeting party and whatnot though.

That sounds like an excellent plan. Derek, what say you?
i am right around there allll the time.. i work downtown, but am always in that area.
You're coming too!
Do you know which hotel you're staying in? I really really really strongly suggest the DoubleTree in times square!

Times Square...that's a place that I wish I could see through the eyes of a tourist, because I bet it would be pretty amazing. As a New Yorker, I want to shoot myself when I'm there. Soooooooooooo many tourists, and no one knows how to walk...and I'm a fast walker, which makes it one of the worst places eeeeeever. I can't take it there. But it's still pretty cool to see at night.
