Creedish.
I'd imagine so, but i got no idea
You'd figure there would have been some kind of little uprising in the news back when the book came out if there was a real Creedish Cult
but then if they all killed themselves there wouldn't have been any of them to complain
so welcome back, Square One
As God as my witness...I thought turkeys could fly...
geeee ha... you wouldn't be plugging your band now would ya? Signatures are good for that..ukum! ahh. creed.
That website is quite funny.
I think for the most part the specifics of the Creedish Death Cult were all Palahniuk's invention.
yes. i was thinking of changing the name of my disfunctional band,
from: arming the amish....... to ...... disarming the creedish.
this is sort of why i asked.
i wonder if chuck would sue me....
that would be a great way to meet the fellow.
by the way, i've been away from this msg brd scene for a few years, is it not allowed to post links of your band? becuase you're the second person to say something about it.
love you. trav -is- amish

I kind of like Arming the Amish. Alliteration in a band name can be good, and make it more memorable (ex. The Groovie Ghoulies, Marilyn Manson, the Beastie Boys, the Beach Boys, Against All Authority, Franz Ferdinand... not vouching for musical quality, just giving examples).
And if you want to read up on cults some more, Margaret Sanger's (?) book Cults in our Midst is pretty bitchin', and Leo Booth's When God Becomes a Drug was interesting and would also make a fine name for a band.

As far as I can tell, the Creedish cult is supposed to be a parody of rural 7 Day Adventists, not the Amish. I can't remember why I think that though. It made sense when I read the book. Possibly because we don't have any Amish or Mennonites in Nebraska, but we do (and I've never heard of this anywhere else, only here) have 7 Day Adventist colonies.
In English, when we say: "It is raining"
What the fuck is IT? Sometimes I wake up in a cold sweat afraid that IT has found me.
The Creedish cult is interesting because in Canada, there's a Mormon-ish community in British Columbia that everyone knows about, but everyone turns a blind eye to. We're all about tolerance and inclusion, so for the authorities to break up such a community - even with the allegations of teenage brides in arranged marriages - is pretty much unthinkable.
The West's fascination with celebrities also rings true in "Survivor". Have we ever been more interested as a culture in media-created celebrities?
i always think it's the famous People's Temple. Non? coz to me it's so obvious - drinking the kool-aid, massacre, etc etc. here's a link http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6353579
Knowing the Palahniuk there was probably no one single influence and nothing left unsensationalized, in a good way though. There's something about cults that's creepy and suicidish, regardless of whether or not they actually mass-off themselves.
If it's not consensual, it's not moral. Ever.
"under me sensei" Barrington Levy...Creedish I always invisioned as a Creed fan club similar to Tom Cruise's fan club Scientology. As far as I understand The Creedish Cult it was a satirical interpretation of all suicide cults and mass murderers, i.e. Manson Family, Branch Davidians, HaleBoppers, Jim Jones Kool-Aid Kids, etc. The sensationalization and infatuation upon these Messianic-esque replacements for faith was an underlying theme of Survivor. Personally, I thought that the book just explored how caught up human beings can become in faith. If I'm not mistaken I remember reading this book around 2001 or 2002. I agree with George Carlin's statement that goes something like this: I believe in things I see everyday. The sun for instance it rises in the morning and sets in the evening. People go to such great lengths to prove to you that their god is better than yours. I haven't seen the Pharoah today, but I have seen the sun. "Read more, learn more, change the globe."-Nas
Few white citizens are acquainted with blacks other than those projected by the media and the so—called educational system, which is nothing more than a system of rewards and punishments based upon one’s ability to pledge loyalty oaths to Anglo culture. The media and the “educational system” are the prime sources of racism in the United States. --Ishmael Reed
I believe Chuck related Creedish to the term Creedism and just had some fun with it and made it into a cult. Creedism is wrong, so the Creedish church would definitely be wrong. For those not familiar with Creedism, it's basically Racism and Anti-Semitism.
