The Cult of Sports

A lot of people complain in chat or on the boards when sports are discussed. This will be the home, the understanding shoulder for sports fans to cry on. Do you like Football? American Football? Australian Football? Football with sticks and a diamond (also known as baseball)? Football on ice with sticks (also known as hockey)? Football without the pads, helmets or ball, but with violence (also known as MMA or other combat sports)?

Come! Join! Discuss! Fear not the ladies and gentlemen that poopoo on sports. Here, behind closed doors, you are safe!

Pigskin Legends

Having just learned the news of Brett Favre's retirement, I just want to take the opportunity to pay tribute to this great captain and player. Being a 49ers fan, I often found myself rooting against him, but in a way reminiscent of Cameron Diaz's character in There's somehing about Mary, I always had the utmost admiration and pleasure to see him play. He brought joy, humanity and a spark of magic, ingredients that are so easily crushed in the world of american football.

So this is a thread about those stars of american football.

Sports or Consequences !

This will be too easy to do, being on the internet already and all. but what the heck! Answer the question and then you get to post your own sports trivia question!

Who are the only two heisman trophy winners to play Major League Baseball?

Keep the ball alive, this is Rugby !

Stronger, faster, better, the one and only page devoted to the best sport in the world is back from the hell of lost threads.

Perhaps more than any other sport, rugby inspires the verve and the talent of the viewers and the actors alike :

http://uk.

Contrary to its american younger brother, rugby is based on versatility and free flowing action :

It also rewards team effort, both for skill and for strength :

The (Pretend) MLB Show: [Moe.ron League Baseball]

I am doing nothing but starting this thread. Moe, this is for you once the league rules are decided and everything starts running. You're in control, posting rules, and whatever. Because I know little about fantasy leagues. But I know a lot about starting a group page for people who need one.

American Football Championship Game!

I've always thought it was weird how the NFL banned the use of "Superbowl" in commercials except by approved advertisers. You hear those radio giveaway contests, promising a flat screen TV for "the big game" or "the championship"...annoying. I wonder how much it costs to say Superbowl in a commercial?

At any rate, on paper, this is starting to look like a really good game. The bad part is, if the pats lose, all those Bostonians are goign to say it's because of Brady's injury (whatever that may be). I have no stake in this other than I want it to be competetive. Who's everybody rooting for?

Ole, Ole-Ole-Ole....

Derek should get in here and start running the soccer thread. O Barca, where art thou?

The Greatest Sport in History

Dammit, I love Hockey, and I pray every day that Sidney Crosby will help the interest level lift the NHL off of Vs. and back onto TV. There's nothing like this game. If you love basketball, soccer, or football, I can't imagine why you wouldn't be intrigued by Hockey. I hope I'm not the only one...

Hoops...

I'm not a big fan of basketball, but I love playoff games. All the drama in LA about the Lakers is fun to listen to on local sportstalk. So much man-love for Kobe, yet so much teenage angst-y drama attached as well. I'm keeping my eye on a Lakers/Celtics final...

Fight!

So much fighting, so little time...

Is Mayweather really contemplating fighting an MMA star? Will Brock Lesnar survive a real test in the Octagon? Can the IFL fight format catch on, since I really like the idea of it? Would the Cobra Kai Dojo hold their own against the Gracie Family?

Play Ball!

This one's for Moe... Let's talk baseball. Forget the Miller report, forget the wacky Hall of Fame inductions (although I do want to start a thread about how they need to restructure the thinking behind the Hall of Fame). This one's for the season. Who looks good? Who's falling apart? Who's building for the stretch run? Who's making horrible trades?

NFL Playoffs...

I'm trying out the "Create Group Page" Feature...le4t's talk aboutthe impending bloouts..I mean, conference championship games...

How badly will the Chargers get trounced? Or will it be a Nor'Easter Feaster for the Bolts (hey, I couldn't think of a New England-related natural disaster, gimme a break)? Will the Giants stand tall in Green Bay? Or will Favre and his kids make Eli "at least as great as Dilfer and Grossman" Manning feel like the lesser Manning brother (which would be hard to do right now)?

I am Sportscenter

Well, not anymore, not since I stopped my cable service. I miss that show so much. Anyway, this is my welcome post to those sports aficionados here - this is your place for the manly world of athletics. And the womanly world too. We've got an astounding Championship football weekend coming up, a basketball season full of surprises, MLB+HGH, Hockey in the great outdoors...so much to talk about, why not start now?

I've put categories in place for all of the major sports, and a Misc. category for anything you feel wasn't included. I'm flexible, if we get a lot of requests for, say, a dedicated NASCAR thread, or a golf thread, I'll kill myself. Or maybe I'll add the categories to the list. I'm fair and balanced.
