Welcome to the Demo Group! The point of this group is to have a publicly available area for any members to see how groups operate.

This area is called the "Mission Statement". This is where the group leader will describe the purpose or goals of each group to it's members. This can be changed at any time by the group leader, and also functions as a great way for a group leader to make important announcements.

Welcome to the New Improved Cult Book Club!

I hope that we can take this thing to where it's always meant to go. The Cult's book club has always been on the verge of being a huge success. But I feel like I've never been able to get it over that hump. So hopefully with this new project we'll be able to make it what it always should have been.

We're always open to suggestions so let me know what you guys feel, think, want, or whatever.

Self-Assignment Club

Welcome to the Self-Assignment Club.

[Shall be filled in with more details on our aims and integration of our little club with the Workshop itself. I also intend to relate to something Mark said:

When Chuck first started supplying us with essays in early 2004, I renamed our original workshop section "Self-Assignment" as a convenient way of distinguishing in from "Chuckshop."

But there's more to it than that... the name means something.

I learned from one of my best university writing professors to believe in self-assignment as a something imperative for the writer. It doesn't simply mean doing whatever you want as you create something on the fly. It means becoming the expert in what your own writing needs the most, and constructing assignments for yourself based on this discernment.

I'd be happy to throw in some more information along these lines and see if we can get people posting about their own self-assignment directives, and how they arrive at them, as a preliminary to the submitted work.

A lot of people complain in chat or on the boards when sports are discussed. This will be the home, the understanding shoulder for sports fans to cry on. Do you like Football? American Football? Australian Football? Football with sticks and a diamond (also known as baseball)? Football on ice with sticks (also known as hockey)? Football without the pads, helmets or ball, but with violence (also known as MMA or other combat sports)?

The Mail Man Always Rings Twice

This group is for all of us that enjoy getting packages and snail mail. We will participate in Secret Santas, CD swaps, Postcards and many other holiday and just plain fun mailings! Anyone can join, but I ask that if you sign up for a certain swap or whatever, please follow through. If it is impossible for you to follow through with something due to family emergency, or any other major cause, please just keep in contact with me or whoever is running the certain swap. Devotion is very important, but communication is key. Let's start mailing some fun stuff!
