Tropic Thunder with a black Robert Downey
Since the makers of a thread can’t edit their own first post, this is my dummy post with the real one below it. If this works, I will pat myself on the back for outsmarting the glitch. If it doesn’t work, I will hang my head in shame and accept ridicule.
So, see the post below this one.
"You're in pain, and instead of doing heroin, you're doing God. And I need sandpaper."
So there is a new movie coming out called Tropic Thunder with Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Nick Nolte, and uh… Robert Downey Jr.

Yes, that’s him, the black guy. Here’s an explanation:
[Downey] plays Kirk Lazarus, a very serious Oscar-winning actor cast in the most expensive Vietnam War film ever. Problem is, Lazarus's character, Sgt. Osiris, was originally written as black. So Lazarus decides to dye his skin and play Osiris, um, authentically. Funny? Sure. Dangerous? That's an understatement. ''If it's done right, it could be the type of role you called Peter Sellers to do 35 years ago,'' Downey says. ''If you don't do it right, we're going to hell.''
Tropic Thunder debuts August 15, but we'll only have to wait until March 17 to see the trailer -- which, according to EW, features Downey trying "to bond with a real African-American castmate by quoting the theme song from 'The Jeffersons.'"
And here is a synopsis of the movie:
Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey Jr. lead an ensemble cast in "Tropic Thunder," an action comedy about a group of self-absorbed actors who set out to make the most expensive war film ever. After ballooning costs force the studio to cancel the movie, the frustrated director refuses to stop shooting leading his cast into the jungles of Southeast Asia, where they end up knee deep in the shit.

Yes, I now see the big EDIT button on upper right hand corner of the thread... so just ignore my self absorbed attention drawing tone.
:)

Wow! You can't get into that site unless you provide your full name, zip code and birth date! That's pretty fucking creepy for a movie.
Also, the left side of my ass that's robert downey jr.
in the heat of burning air to watch the naked famele body is insane,
Here is another link for the trailer. The official movie site required a "creepy" login, so this is easier. It's not much of trailer, just a tease, but you get a sense of the whole thing.

Are we sure that's really Robert Downey Jr? I mean it looks nothing like him, obviously. Any posibility it's just an elaborate hoax?
"Earlier this evening, Gordon Blackstone. He was banned why? Frank claims I was lying of Tony. Though he will always be with me. For a thought is important no matter what it be. I think Tony Demireo (Life Martyr or for some []/bracketz) will be around for a long time..." -Gordon Blackstone

I guess its a possible hoax. But I tend to think its real. Every article, picture, interview, etc mentions it. And Downey talks about the delicate situation this role presents as well. [br][br]
Here's an article which also mentions that Stiller has been thinking about this idea ever since he was in Empire of the Sun 20 years ago.[br]

[br][br]But it absolutely could be a con job as a publicity stunt. Then again, having a white actor play a white actor who decides to play a black guy in a movie seems to be a pretty good publicity stunt in itself.
"You're in pain, and instead of doing heroin, you're doing God. And I need sandpaper."
i think it's definitely going to be some sort of "stunt." That going to be one of the jokes for it a white guy playing a black guy for the mmovie and they just replace him for a real black guy and dont flinch on the joke and play it as real. That kinda sorta looks like Tim Meadows if you squint just right.
in the heat of burning air to watch the naked famele body is insane,
Anyone remember "is this for real" 80s comedy Soul Man?[br]

[br][br]
Soul Man was the first thing I thought of when I saw this. If I remember correctly, it was about a guy taking a heavy dose of tanning pills so he could get into Harvard on a minority scholorship. Robert Downey mentions that movie in this interview:[br][br]
[i]The studio plans to debut the trailer online March 17, and Downey is all over it. (In one scene, he tries to bond with a real African-American castmate by quoting the theme song from The Jeffersons.) Downey, meanwhile, is confident he never crossed the line. ''At the end of the day, it's always about how well you commit to the character,'' he says. ''I dove in with both feet. If I didn't feel it was morally sound, or that it would be easily misinterpreted that I'm just C. Thomas Howell in [Soul Man], I would've stayed home.''[/i][br][br]

They just released a new, restricted trailer for this, which makes it look even more hilarious, and points out Robert Downey Junior's character's deficits as a black man even more resoundingly:
This is the official site of the trailer, which is age restricted and requires a creepy log in checking your info against government issued IDs:

Or, more conveniently, the Youtube version fo the new trailer:

I loved the first trailer, and this one only wants me want to see it more. I'm sorta glad the director guy dies off pretty quickly, because his other movie coming out soon, Hamlet 2, sorta looks like shit. Anyway, that looks completely awesome yet histerical at the same time. Can't wait to see it.

I'm a sucker for comedies. I've must've showed all my friends the red band trailers for Tropic Thunder and The Pineapple Express. Tropic Thunder looks incredible, and I can't wait to see a certain cameo...

Saw it tonight finally. There was this scene where RDJ was yelling at another castmate and did this weird smile-frown combo that had me cracking up. Between and Jack Black, they had the character mannerisms down pat. There were sooo many one-liners. Gotta love a movie with fake trailers.

Quick, we only have 16 hours before they wake up!

Best lines from summer comedies:
1) I'm a lead farmer muthafucka!
2) You just got killed by a Daewoo Lanos motherfucker.
2) I've got porn from the 70's, 80's, 90's. It's like masturbating in a time machine.
Ect. And so on. And so forth.

Now I want you to take a step back...and literally FUCK YOUR OWN FACE!
[rosiemoonjumper] 9:52 pm: cheeks are great
[rosiemoonjumper] 9:52 pm: bum and face
[rosiemoonjumper] 9:52 pm: oh yeah bum here = bottom not street vagrant
Ha ha, the Fuck your own face thing was hilarious.
And when Jack Black was tied to the tree, talking about suckin dick for drugs, and swallowing the gravy, I was almost in tears.
SUCK MY UNIT!

I've got to say the funniest thing about this thread and about Tropic Thunder in general had to be that before the movie came out the outrage had to do with Robert Downey Jr. playing an African American role and once the film came out the outrage all had to do with Ben Stiller playing a "mentally challenged person." It's amazing how quickly things can flip back and forth like that. In all honesty this movie was hilarious and the casting was brilliant. The opening fake credits featuring Downey and the kid from Spider Man in the newest Broke Back Mountain rip off was classic, as was Scorch 6 (I think it was 6) Iced Earth starring Stiller having to save the day for the billionth time from the "unthinkable happening again." Black did a great job with his role as well playing the heroin addicted actor obsessed with his "jelly beans." I can honestly say I don't think I'd ever want to drink that Ghetto Sweat (I believe that was the name of the drink) that rapper guy kept plugging.
