May is here and I am reading...
You guys know how much I love John Connollys books so I cant wait to get started on The Reapers before I go see him this weekend.
Whats everyone else reading?
Dark past, bright future, living abroad, well read. You're like the reincarnation of James Dean, hopefully with better driving skills ( Tomstrong on me, best compliment I ever got! )
slaughterhouse v by vonnegut. oldie but goodie.
i'm planning to check out candy girl by diablo cody. i read up to the second chapter in a bookstore and it's a very easy read with her own style of sarcastic/dry humor.
sucks that your team lost, by the way.
The Book of Revelation by Rupert Thomson.
I'm reading this for the Clevenger Intensive. And who wouldn't like a story about a guy who gets abducted by 3 strange women, chained to the floor, and then sexually abused for 18 days? Sounds like Spring Break to me...

That was the first book I read by him and possibly my favourite. Also worth reading is The Five Gates of Hell.

Just finished three short story collections, Knockemstiff by Donald Ray Pollack, Bleed Into Me by Stephen Graham Jones, and Bone and Rust by Craig Davidson. All three were great. SGJ goes over my head a lot, DRP was really good, but Davidson I enjoyed the most I think.
peer reviewed research articles about face perception, recognition, and evolutionary psychology
do those count? i mean, they are published.

If you like that sort of thing check out two books by aldus huxley(if you havent allready) Doors of Perception, & After Many a Summer Dies the Swan
Currently between books, as having trouble focusing on one at the moment so I am currently reading the following
* God is a Bullet - Boston Teran
I failed to finish this when I bought it about 3 years ago and picked it up again, as I heard that the guy who directed Alpha Dog is working on a film version with the author. Currently still trying to finish and even though I have about twenty pages to go, I just can't find the enthusiasm to pick it up, so might finish it on the train ride down to see my girlfriend tommorow.
* Lunar Park - Bret Easton Ellis
Another book I bought and never finished, which is kinda strange seeing how I'm a big fan of his work, though this is kind of his most out there yet and has yet to reach the same level as "Rules of Attraction" which is still my favourite, following closely by "American Psycho"
* Heart Shaped Box - Joe Hill
I started this last night and so far it's pretty decent and also good to see that he's not using his real surname of "King" so that he can be considered an author on his own merit, rather than riding on the back of his famous father Stephen. I'm curious though to know if he's a fan of Chuck?

i've read siddhartha twice. great book that one is. keep reading Lunar Park it gets way better. that book fucking rocks! i had a hard time discerning reality and fiction in that one. i think next on my list for the summer books is Ayn Rands, The Fountainhead...any other suggestions??? that is after i compulsively read SNUFF!!!
Few white citizens are acquainted with blacks other than those projected by the media and the so—called educational system, which is nothing more than a system of rewards and punishments based upon one’s ability to pledge loyalty oaths to Anglo culture. just decided to put ayn rand's the fountainhead on hold for now. started reading bret easton ellis' less than zero.

Less than Zero is the worst book I've read this year, and I'm really starting to accumulate some bad reads. Ellis must have grown a lot between Less than Zero and American Psycho, because one is great and the other is bare, bland, and boring.
I've heard good things about The Fountainhead, though.
that sucks ban dr
less than zero is one of those rare great books that people just dont know about. it's one of my woman's favorite of all time books. the bland aspect of the story i'll champion until my grave as being part of the main point.
i'll offer a few fantastic reads i've been surprised with over the last year or two:
the road, pop 1280, ask the dust..
in fact, delay that recommendation list; offer up some reads you loved, i mean really loved, and i'll try and match the interest with books i think may be similar that i loved (as opposed to just offering books that i hold dear).

As deeper breathing returned, he coddled a dream of images of his future family, of himself and his love and children and in it he smiled the smile of one who works hard and provides, the proud father. The pride of the father. He stopped his thoughts and pushed himself to hurry because of the pride of a father like Ol Jim, because there are some people in this world you just shouldn’t rile.

oh. sorry, thread:
currently reading one man's bible

I was beginning to wonder if you dislike anything.
The Shining. I've decided this is Steven King month. I'll move on to The Gunslinger next.
Me too on the Steven King. Last couple books I've read: Misery, The Long Walk, and today finished Carrie. Niiiice. I've never ever read "horror" stories, figured they weren't my thing, but I like these. Derek = Best.
Kabol I liked Wonderboys but Im not rushing out to buy another book by him. I hear its the best book by him to start with.
Dark past, bright future, living abroad, well read. You're like the reincarnation of James Dean, hopefully with better driving skills ( Tomstrong on me, best compliment I ever got! )
Im reading In Search of a Distant Voice byu Taichi Yamada. I loved his first book called Strangers.

no, i have rather select tastes. being a learning writer and with the added lack of sales for fiction in general, i am quite loud to champion a book that i love and in general deathly silent about those i dont. i guess it's a quirk.
derek. i'll try wonderboys. everywhere i go i see a copy so it wont be hard to pick up. i'll get to it this summer. it's just that the final solution was so bad to me. throughout both reads..
thanks for letting me know.

I've talked to hardcore Chabon fans who even say that The Last Solution is pretty weak; I'd imagine that's probably not the best representation of his work (I've never actually read Solution, so I don't know myself).
Uh, I'm currently reading John Fante's Ask the Dust. Not bad so far, although too soon to really tell.
ask the dust hit me pretty hard, dude was not so prolific but his books were phenom. bukowski labeled fante his god. ask the dust has some fucking phenomenal pages. just flawless.
as for final solution, i figured that such a short work could offer a brief and direct route to his abilities. perhaps that was ill thought out on my part. time will tell. i guess wonderboys will tell. now i'm kind of looking forward to it. thanks glam
