Lala.

I have been formally issued a note of eviction, by which I mean an informal, fuck off from my house. First stop is my Grandmothers, (Newbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland) I can't expect her to want me to stay long, she's got other things to do than expect me to stick around. I very much doubt this is a Go on a holiday, I'm sick of you kind of trip. My delightful mother has gone mad, in what has been quite probably a downperiod as far as our dysfunctional arguementative relationship has been going. In essence, it's out of the blue with a P.S. don't come back

So, yeah, not that I've been around here much recently. Dropping out of college and pursuing a job, or not pursuing a job and going on walks hesitating outside of cafés, well it's rather consuming, as you can imagine. I've packed some books I haven't read, not all of them, and it's a shame to leave some of them behind, but I'll live. Don't really know what to do, planning on trying to get a job and some cheap accommadation, obviously requires actual work. Sort of pissed at what is basically a betrayal, or maybe I'm the bad guy, which my mother seems to think, but I don't see the facts behind it. Not that I'm at all good at admitting to being wrong, but I can do it, and I don't think this is one of those situations.

I don't know. I'm leaving on either Monday or Wednesday. Sigh. Fucking ridiculous, huh?

My point is, I don't know, I like you people, will miss the rudimentary timewasting spent here, or something. I do like you all. Nice people.

Good Luck Alex, you can always visit me in Tuam or I can hop on the train to Kildare. Either way you are welcome to stay at my house for a weekend.

did salinger write that ^^^ sounds like holden caulfield

.

alex, good luck, brother

i did find a way to burn that disc, the essays and critiques and chapter first drafts whatever.  only twenty mb

i have the discs done, but now i dont know where to send yours.  should i just email it all to you ?

the reason i didnt [email] in the first place was because i thought it the files would prove much bigger

but i can send electronically or snail mail

not that that's gonna help with anything, really.  good luck with your job search.  youre a smart lad, earger to read pretty much anything and astute to letters, maybe apply for a job with a newspaper, or with a publishing company reading manuscripts all day long in hopes of finding a gem, something for a few years' experience

i dont know; i'm talking out my brown starfish

good luck, brother.  we'll see you back again.  besides, this has happened before, approx one year ago (if memory serves), and this may be nothing more than simply clockwork.  when you boil everything down--anyway you look at it--all of life's inconsistencies, all of the joys and follies, it all comes down to simple clockwork.

Re: Melodramatic Leaving the Cult Post

Cheers. I'm a bit lost to be honest.

Derek, I've got your address, so I may indeed send a letter your way, and Frank too.

Kabol, yeah, e-mail away, please. I'm going to see if I can print out a couple of things before I'm gone. And thanks for the compliments, I'd love a simple job reading manuscripts, I don't think Newbridge is that big on publishing companies though, but it may have a newspaper. I don't remember. It's a small town. But with the Luas (read: Irish public tram-transport, not too shabby for running times) I guess I might be able to handle a commute to a job in Dublin. I wouldn't like to though.

If anyone would like me to write or anything, feel free to send me your address.

ALEX You cant possibly be on the same tiny island as me and not meet up. IF I dont go to Barcelona next weekend I can get the train to Kildare or Dublin and meet up with you.

Otherwise the spare room in the house is free with the added bonus of about 500 books under the bed. I even promise not to take any photos of you!

Its my birthday Sunday so as a present you can agree to meet me. I have a spare pair of Cujo underpants!

Dude, I'm envious of you. You'll never be able to see how big of an opportunity this is until you look back on it. I would  kill to have the leisure of just packing up and going. I've been chain smoking alot and dreaming of Europe. Perhaps I'll sell my store and join you on the road.

Good luck my friend. Savor every step.

If you end up in London you should give me a shout. And I even have not only a sleeping bag but also an inflatable mattress if you need a place to crash!

In all honesty I hope you are ok, you know there are plenty of people here if you need us, myself included. You take care of yourself, you little tinker.

Anyway, hey Alex... good luck.  The same sort of thing happened with my awful older brother, him and the parents simply could not get along, under any circumstances, ever, and it got to the point of him smashing lots of things and making my sister cry all the time so he was asked to leave.  In that instance it was as much his fault as it was my parents, but it was still really confusing and unpleasant for all involved.  My real big brother turned out fine and I really hope that you, my cult big brother if I may say so, turn out fine too.

So what happens if you just don't go? Do you just get yelled at everyday or can they like call the police and have you taken out? Maybe just come out and ask her what needs to happen for you to stay? Unless you're wanting to take off. In that case, good luck and remember always head West!

Alex, good luck. This'll just be a tale to put in chapter 7 of the memoirs you write when you're 39. You'll be missed around here, but hopefully you find your way back to us eventually. As much as I'd like to write to you, I can't imagine that being very practical for you so I'll just let you be on your way.

I aint been around long but I can say without any doubt that your input in this insanity passin for a writers/ book club has been one of the things that has assured my return. I hope you find a way to return to this whatever it is on a regular basis. I know it's a bit of a cliche but in years to come this experience will be somfin to draw on, to paraphrase old Freddi N, wot don't kill ya will make ya stronger.

Alex, I know this is a difficult time for you and I'm sorry you have to go.  Having left home at 16, I realize how many obstacles you have ahead of you.  However, if I can do it, you can too.  Really, looking back, I think leaving home was the best thing I ever did.  Yes, it was hard to get things straight but it gave me a whole new perspective on life.  I hope you can meet this challenge with courage, strength, and the knowledge that you have many friends in this world that are willing to reach out and be there for you.

Best wishes.  I know you can do this.

Re: Melodramatic Leaving the Cult Post

.

.

so, stop me if youve heard this one..

A man with two sons pulls the elder, thirteen-year-old to the side one evening and says:

"so, Johnny.  I hear you have a girlfriend, now."

The boy smiles.  He nods.  "Yeah, pa."

"Is she pretty, this little girlfriend?"

The boy smiles at this but doenst say anything.  The father askes if he's kissed her.

"Yeah," the boys says.  "I've kissed her."

The father thinks on this news for a moment and asks if he knows about fucking.

The boy looks at his father.  "What's fucking?"

The father thinks some more.  "I'll tell you what.  a little while after me and your mom go to bed, you open the door and I'll show you."

The boy nods, says okay.

A few hours pass.  The mother and father retire for the evening and after a few minutes the boy comes up to the bedroom and opens the door.  The parents are naked on the bed.  The father stares at Johnny asks what the hell he's doing.  The boy explains that he was supposed to come to the door, like he was told.

"Oh," the father says.  He thinks a minute.  The father walks to the door. "You did right coming up here, son.  Okay, look over on the bed, at that hole between your mothers legs.  You see it?"

The boy nods.  He's real nervous.

The father puts his hand on the boy's shoulder.  "okay, watch that little hole."  The father points a finger at it and says, "It opens up.  Now, watch me get it!"

The father rushes the bed begins rutting the mother.  The boy gets real scared.  He didnt think fucking would be so angry.  The boy cries a little bit, he shakes, but he doesnt turn away.

After a few minutes, the father is done and rolls off of the mother and lays on his back.

"See, son?  That's fucking."

The boy nods as the father closes his eyes and the boy closes the door.

The next night, just after the parents go to bed, Johnny turns to his little brother.

"Do you wanna know what fuckin is?"

The younger boy puts his plastic train down and says yes.  Johnny brings his little brother up to the master bedroom and cracks the bedroom door slightly open.  The father is on top of the mother and is really going at it.  The mother is screaming and the father is grunting and this makes the younger boy put a hand in his mouth and cry instantly.  Johnny smiles at his little brother and laughs quietly.  he puts a hand on the younger boys shoulder.

"It's okay," he says.  "Now, you see that little hole between pa's legs?"

The younger boy nods.

"Well, watch that hole.  It gets bigger."

The little brother nods like he understands.

"Now," Johnny says.  "Watch me get it!"

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

catch ya on the rebound, alex. good luck, brother.
