i no in the book tyler wants to be a martyr, but in the movie when jack shoots the van full of nitroglicerin tyler freaks out cuz he is afraid to die, does anyone no if there is a reason for this?

The writer for the movie made a lot of changes like that. Nothing big.  Another reason would be, the writer for the movie probably forgot he wanted to be a martyr, in the book. I didn't even remember that bit of info until you brought it up. Cheers
